Talented professionals lured to advance local growth

THE first batch of 160 talented professionals in the "Thousand People Program" (a recruitment program of global professionals) in Shanghai has been selected recently, among which 14 are from Jiading District.
Putting quality before quantity, Jiading District makes efforts to introduce "genuine" talented experts.
Fu Changjun established Shanghai Antu Plastic Additive Co Ltd at Jiading High-tech Park two years ago. More than 600 new products have been developed, some of which have made breakthroughs in energy saving and can strengthen fire resistance in plastics.
To attract more talented professionals to settle down in Jiading, apart from a subsidy of 500,000 yuan (US$78,720) provided by the city government, the district government also offers another 500,000 yuan to further help recruited professionals to improve their living and working conditions.
Talented professionals will be divided into two categories: "innovative" or "enterprising" individuals. In terms of enterprising, the district will provide 500,000 yuan each to help start up business. For innovation, the district will provide 300,000 yuan to each city-level scientific project.
Moreover, each professional will receive 300,000 yuan as a family allowance and get preferential policies on medical service and children's education.
Each of the 14 professionals in the "Thousand People Program" in Jiading has his or her own detailed program in scientific research and development.
Zhang Qiang, marketing development director of Shanghai United Imaging Healthcare Ltd, owns 10 invention patents of magnetic resonance technology. By 2015, the company is expected to control more than 20 percent of the market share in the complete machine of magnetic resonance.
