Technology systems aid urban management
JIADING is turning to advanced technology to help its urban management strategy. According to the Jiading Science and Technology Commission, an intelligent environment monitoring system will be installed in Jiading New City.
When completed, it will provide real-time monitoring of air quality, water quality, ambient noise and urban pollution in downtown areas.
Smart detectors installed in the district's Zhenxin neighborhood have already proven effective in helping alert law enforcement departments to possible problems.
A digital information system links more than 200 camera monitors across Zhenxin. The neighborhood is wired with a video recognition system and automatic alarms that pick up anything unusual and relay it back to authorities.
"The smart detectors have been installed along Meichuan and Fengzhuang roads," said Zhang Minghua, a government official. "The district will have another 100 detectors added this year."
Policemen in the district's Zhuqiao Town are equipped with portable detecting instruments capable of identifying the existence of dangerous goods within five seconds. The instruments weigh only a tenth of more commonly used security devices.
Such advanced equipment was used last year during the World Expo Shanghai and the Guangzhou Asian Games, and now its superior detection abilities are being applied across urban areas.
The 3.5-kilogram, nano-sensitive device comprises more than 300 parts and has six core sensors.
Jiading District has also begun to upgrade 250 trucks that haul industrial dregs with global positioning electronic tags in order to keep track of their movements.
