The world visits Jiading and Jiading visits the world
JIADING District attracts students from all over the world for education and cultural exchange - and Jiading teachers and students go abroad to promote mutual understanding.
All primary and high schools of Jiading are open to foreign students.
Many schools often invite foreign students and teachers to Jiading for "cultural communication" and also send students and teachers abroad to promote friendship.
"I've made a lot of friends here and I feel very happy," says Juliet, a German student at Anting Primary School. She will enter third grade in the fall.
As more and more foreigners work and live in Jiading, more and more of their children attend Jiading schools.
Foreign students in the district also attend Shanghai University, the Shanghai Dazhong Industrial Institute and Kid Castle and other institutions.
They come from many countries, including the South Korea, Japan, France, Iran, Venezuela and Pakistan.
Every July since 2002, the Sino-US Cultural Communication Summer Camp has been held in the district. It is made possible by Li Guoxiang, president of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Seattle (in the United States) and the Jiading No. 2 High School.
More than 230 students and teachers from the US and 1,650 from China live together in the two-week camp. Activities such as ball games, swimming, and courses in Peking Opera, martial arts and American country music deepen mutual understanding.
"The enthusiastic students in Singapore impressed me greatly while I studied there six months ago," says Gong Chengchun from Huaishao High School.
Since the 1980s, Jiading and its Japanese sister city, Yao, have been exchanging students to improve mutual understanding through academia, sports, art and various fields of culture.
Nowadays, organizing students to go abroad for cultural communications trips has become regular work for the Jiading Education Commission.
Last year more than 100 students went abroad for "cultural communications."
In February, more than 20 students and teachers visited Hauraki in New Zealand.
This summer, about 50 Jiading teachers and students will visit Japan and New Zealand, learning about foreign culture and promoting friendship between China and the world.
