Three-way deal to focus on laser technology development
SHANGHAI Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Jiading District government will collaborate in the development of high powered lasers, LD packages and laser materials.
The three enterprises are expected to achieve an annual tax revenue of more than 20 million yuan (US$ 2.92 million) in three years.
Two laser materials are expected to be industrialized, including neodymium glass laser, a core material for laser components.
Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics at Jiading Industrial Zone set aside 6.67 hectares of its total 11.33-hectare land to develop this project. With a total investment of 150 million yuan, it is expected to start in 2011.
Being the only domestic institute that masters neodymium glass laser production technology, the institute is looking at a market worth several billion yuan.
Another laser material to be industrialized is laser solar coating. It is mainly used to improve the efficiency of solar power installations.
Experts believed that when laser solar coated glass takes the place of solar glass, the energy conversion efficiency can be increased by 2.1 percent.
Shanghai Henghaoxin Solar Coating Technology Co Ltd has been established and will be put into operation by the end of June. By 2011, its output value will reach 150 million yuan.
LD packages can be used for fiber-optic communications, medical, automotive three-dimensional welding, aerospace ranging and laser radar. Shanghai Hengyida Science and Technology Co Ltd will start on the project by the end of this year.
The sales volume in the first year will reach 15 million yuan and will increase to 200 million yuan five years later.
A cooperation agreement worth US$45 million was signed by the institute with an Israeli company to manufacture high-powered lasers.
