METRO Line 11 linking downtown with Jiading has implemented a communication-based train control system recently to improve safety and enable shorter interval times between trains.
Closer ties
The Industrial Union of Torino in Italy and the Jiading Commerce Committee have signed a memorandum of agreement to strengthen ties in manufacturing and supply. A delegation from Japan also visited Jiading recently to discuss closer cultural and economic links.
Garbage tests
A super-efficient biochemical garbage disposal system is undergoing trial tests in Jiading. The system can reduce the garbage up to 90 percent if it is well sorted.
Mercedes shop
A new Mercedes-Benz 4S shop held its ground breaking ceremony on Aite Road in Jiangqiao Town recently. The project, with an investment of 100 million yuan (US$15 million), will cover an area of 300,000 square meters and will be the biggest store selling Mercedes-Benz in Asia. Another eight 4S stores will open on the road, making it a one-stop auto service street.
Hotel court
Courtyard by Marriott Jiading was opened recently. Located at the intersection of Huyi and Yecheng roads, the hotel was the first of the world's leading hotel chain to be located in Jiading.
Disabled donation
To mark the International Day of Disabled Persons on December 3, Shanghai Poly Real Estate Development Co donated 300,000 yuan to Jiading Federation of Disabled Persons. On the same day, Shanghai Koal Auto Parts Co donated 600,000 yuan to the Jiading branch of the Red Cross.
Helping people
More than 200,000 quilts and pieces of clothing donated to needy people in Yunnan and Sichuan provinces by Jiading people were transported by train from Jiading to their destinations on December 8.
Book work
Ren Guangyue, a 77-year-old Jiading native, has transcribed 620 books in the past 20 years. He estimated that he has written more than 25 million Chinese characters in transcriptions covering literature, history, politics, economics and military affairs.
Easy booking
One-stop airfare booking service is now available at the flagship store of Jiading Postal Bureau's ticket booking center.
Winter blooms
Wintersweet flowers have blossomed in Waigang Wintersweet Park. The floral display will last through the end of February.
