Transformed space offers tree-lined relaxation
AN upgraded green space in Anting Town has become a new place to go.
The open space featuring tall trees, flowers, fitness trails, a wooden bridge, two kiosks, stools and even rest rooms is just a short distance from Lianqun and Dongjie villages.
Surrounded by Chunting, Boyuan, Lianqun and Songyang roads, the space comprises nearly 20 hectares. A major renovation lasting one and a half years gives the area a facelift and locals a nice place to relax.
“It was just man-made woods previously to purify air and improve local environment,” said Liang Xiuping of the district forestry authority. “But the outdated facilities could no longer meet the demand for leisure activities. That’s why we restored the place.”
Varieties of trees and flowers including ginkgo, camphor and magnolia have been transplanted, and beech, maple and cedar trees are planted by the loop trail.
A wisteria corridor is already a highlight along the main trail, which is expected to reach 500 meters long — a 150-meter section has been competed. Full completion is due by the end of the year.
The five different species of wisteria planted are imported from Japan. Michio Fujimoto, the Japanese gardener who planted the first wisteria tree in Jiading, offered guidance.
The renovated green space has created an example for forestland transformation in Jiading, local officials said.
