Two German companies win site approval

THE Shanghai arms of two German manufacturers have recently won approval from the Shanghai Commerce Commission to set up transnational regional headquarters in Jiading.

The two companies are Fuchs Lubricants Enterprise Management (Shanghai) Ltd and Kostal (Shanghai) Management Co.

Fuchs Lubricant (Shanghai) said it will run the company's East Asian operations from the new headquarters. Fuchs is a leading global supplier of specialty lubricants and is one of the first foreign-invested companies to set up operations in Jiading.

Last year, the Shanghai arm said its revenue rose a third to 740 million yuan (US$112 million).

Fuchs decided to set up the enterprise management company last year to supervise operations in China, Japan and South Korea. Under the headquarters umbrella, a research center and assembly lines will serve clients in China, Australia, South Asia and East Asia.

The research center will be Fuchs' second biggest in the world, comprising 15 research labs, 10 simulating labs and 10 inspection labs, employing 80 staff and occupying an area of 3,500 square meters.

With the help of the new headquarters, Fuchs Shanghai said it aims to increase revenue to 850 million yuan.

Shanghai Kostal-Huayang Automotive Electric Co has been operating in Jiading for 15 years. Revenue last year topped 1.9 billion yuan.

Kostal (Shanghai) Management Co will serve as a major center for the company, which develops and manufactures technologically advanced electronic, electromechanical and mechatronic products.
