Vegetable firm places priority on food safety
Nearly 100 tons of high quality bean sprouts are transported to more than 400 vegetable markets in Shanghai every day by Yuanye Vegetable Co, which is in Jiading District’s Waigang Industrial Zone.
The company now boasts the best bean sprouts in Shanghai with 50 percent market share.
Company officials said the sprouts sell for 3 yuan (49 US cents) to 4 yuan per kilogram.
The company now farms soya beans and green beans, which have no pesticide residues or pollution, in about 334 hectares of farmland in Heilongjiang Province in northeast China. In Jiading, the company has established an 8,000-square-meter facility and introduced equipment from Japan.
Shen Chuanshi, general manager of the company, said they had invested heavily to ensure there are no additives.
“It’s worth it because the food industry should put safety first,” Shen said.
