Volunteer sites join trial runs

A TRIAL run of city volunteer service sites kicked off on the same day as the Expo Shanghai site started trial operations.
In Jiading, 46 city service sites have been set up at crowded areas, hotels, main roads, scenic spots and communities.
Selected from more than 5,000 candidates from all walks of life, 1,500 volunteers, together with more than 600 university students, will provide services such as general advice, translation, promotion and emergency aid.
The university student volunteers come from Tianhua College, Xinqiao Vocational and Technical College and Shanghai University. They will be on duty from 9am to 5pm.
"We now represent the image of Shanghai," said Yu Kan, a third-year student from Tianhua College. "We must provide the best service to foreign guests."
At city service sites, people can get Expo brochures and maps without charge. Expats can go to the service sites for help when they have problems with language.
