Volvo Cars opens new headquarters in Jiading
GEELY-OWNED Volvo Cars Corp opened its new headquarters in Jiading District on January 25.
Volvo CEO Stefan Jacoby said the company plans to become one of the leading brands in China's luxury car market by 2015.
Volvo has also recently opened a new US$25 million auto technical center in Jiading.
The center will be responsible for developing new interior and exterior designs and improved electrical, security and energy-saving systems. The addition of the new Volvo facilities moves Jiading a step closer toward its dreams of becoming a major auto industry hub in China.
China's privately-owned Geely completed its US$1.65 billion acquisition of Swedish carmaker Volvo from the Ford Motor Co last August.
It was the largest-ever takeover in China's auto history. Jacoby, the former head of Volkswagen in the US, was named president and CEO of Volvo.
The company is expected to soon announce where it will site a car manufacturing facility, with Shanghai, the northeastern city of Daqing, Heilongjiang Province and the southwestern city of Chengdu, Sichuan Province as top contenders.
