Winter flower show has added attractions

The 2013 Wintersweet Culture Expo is running at the Wintersweet Park in Jiading Waigang Town. With the theme of “Celebrating the Year of the Horse in the Blossom of Wintersweet,” the expo is consisted of three activities, showgirl carnival, New Year blessing ceremony and wintersweet sightseeing.
Showgirl carnival
The Chinese pronunciation of “Wintersweet” is mei, which sounds the same as “Beautiful.” Clad in elegant costumes embroidered with wintersweet, the beautiful showgirls will treat you with a visual feast. In the carnival there is also a quiz on the knowledge of winter sweet, so as to promote the wintersweet culture.
New Year blessing ceremony
The New Year blessing ceremony features a strong flavor of traditional Chinese culture. Visitors will be entertained by the fishermen’s performance with the theme of “Carps flying over the dragon’s gate,” hoping to get a year-round harvest next year.
Wintersweet sightseeing
Wintersweet of Waigang is famous for its old Qianmen wintersweet dating back to the late Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). Botanists also dub it as one of the three winter distinctive plants in Shanghai along with the Chongming narcissus and Fengxian white willow.
During a sightseeing tour around the park, visitors can also take part in some wintersweet themed contests of calligraphy, painting and photography.
