Wisteria Park improves the experience
Tens thousands of people have been flocking to Wisteria Park in Jiading every day since mid April, making it hard for visitors to walk around a park that is smaller than two soccer fields.
In the two-week flowering period last year, more than 200,000 people visited the famous wisteria garden with a daily peak at around 20,000 visitors.
Finding a place to park, toilet facilities and the high density of visitors are the main challenges for the park. Jiading has made preparations to ensure safety and convenience for visitors this year.
All the chairs have been painted and colorful lights have been put along roads and on wisteria frames. From April 16 to May 4 the park will have an additional six cleaners to ensure the prompt removal of rubbish.
Two more portable toilets, with cubicles for 10 people have been put in place.
Drivers can park their cars at the nearby Han Tianheng Art Gallery, former site of the district prosecutor’s office and court. Jianghai Hotel and district social security bureau will also provide parking spaces during weekends.
During weekends and public holidays, the entrance at Bole Road could be closed to cars and will be open to visitors only.
In order to prevent overcrowding accidents, the district’s greenery department made an estimation that the maximum capacity is around 2,000 people at any one time for the park with a daily capacity of around 14,200.
So when the crowd numbers reach 80 percent of the maximum, limiting measures will be put into place.
According to a contingency plan, visitors can only enter the park from the Bole Road entrance and exit from other two entrances afterwards.
Jiading has also planted a kilometer-long bank of wisteria along the Huancheng River in Juyuan New Area, and wisteria will also be planted in Huangdu Ecological Park and Jiabao Forest, so visitors can go to these places if they want to find another place to admire the wisteria blossom.
