Work starts on Metro Line 13

CONSTRUCTION on the Jiading tunnel for Metro Line 13 began last month.

The west section of the first phase, from Huajiang Road Station to Jinshajiang Road Station, is due to be completed in 2012, and the east section from Jinshajiang Road Station to Nanjing Road W. Station will be done by 2015.

The first phase of Metro Line 13 will be 16.4 kilometers long, with 4 kilometers inside the boundaries of Jiading. It will include three stations: Huajiang Road Station, Jinshajiang Road W. Station and Fenzhuang Station.

Huajiang Road Station is the starting point for Line 13 and will also be the biggest station among the three. It will have eight entrances, connecting Wanda Square and several housing estates. The west side of the station will serve as a transfer point for Line 17, which is still on the drawing boards. The major structure of the 7,000-square-meter station is nearing completion.

The Jinshajiang Road W. Station and Fenzhuang Station are both on the second floor underground, each covering an area of 5,000 square meters with six entrances. The major structure of the east part of Jinshajiang Road W. Station has almost completed, and the west part of it will start construction soon. Excavation work is under way on Fenzhuang Station. The construction will be completed in the second half of 2012.

The construction of another important Metro line in Jiading, the extension section of Metro Line 11, was approved recently by the National Development and Reform Commission. Construction is to start later this year and be completed in 2012. Metro Line 11 will also be served as an intercity transfer line, connecting Suzhou Metro Line S1.
