Workers back with spring in their step
MIGRANT workers have returned to Jiading after going home to reunite with their families for the Lunar New Year holiday.
Many of them return with a spring in their step — full of confidence to embrace a brighter future here, doing so through hard work, strict budgeting and most of all the firm support of their families.
At the long haul bus center, Li Juan from central China’s Henan Province called her mother to say she had arrived safely. Li also sent a selfie taken at the coach terminal.
With their backpacks full of homemade snacks, Li and her boyfriend were ready to resume their work in Jiading.
Many migrants like Li and her beloved bring back the flavors of their hometowns to enjoy in the big city.
Wang Zhixuan arrived at the Jiading coach terminal with a large trolley case in which there were beef jelly, apples and bacon made or supplied by his mother. All the products were from his hometown in eastern Shandong Province.
“Jiading is where I work and stay. Here is my home also,” Wang said.
Wang and his girlfriend moved to Jiading after graduation. Wang works for a foreign-funded company testing auto engines.
The young couple together earn 16,000 yuan (US$2,330) a month and they want to buy an apartment to settle down here.
As Wang’s mother lives alone at home, Wang’s ambition is to bring her to Jiading to live with him and his girlfriend as well as their expected child.
For Luo Hongwei from Tianshui in north China’s Gansu Province, “the world outside is fantastic.” Luo is 20 years old and plans to do a good job in Jiading. He and his brother worked in machine processing in their provincial capital Lanzhou. They were each paid 3,000 to 4,000 yuan a month, a large sum at their hometown.
But the brothers want to demonstrate their skills on a larger platform. So after a 20-hour train ride, they arrived at the North Jiading Station of Metro Line 11. Luo’s aim is to produce parts for a renowned car brand.
