German stage plays
TWO German-language plays from the Berliner Theatertreffen, a German theater festival, will hit the stage at Shanghai’s Daning Theater over the coming days.
Berlin’s production of “John Gabriel Borkman,” from Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen, will be performed on June 29 and 30. On July 3 and 4, Daning Theater will also host Samuel Beckett’s absurdist classic “Waiting for Godot.”
Maxim Gorki Theater performed “Common Ground,” a recent play about migrant identities, on June 24 and 25.
First held in 1964, Berliner Theatertreffen is one of the most important theater events in the German-speaking world. This year, the festival has expanded to China, with the three plays mentioned above being part of the first ever Theatertreffen China.
