Museum helps students learn of war years
A museum marking an event in World War II held an “interactive experience” and issued commemorative stamps as part of its first anniversary.
The museum was once the Sihang Warehouse, where 400 Chinese soldiers and the Japanese army engaged in a four-day battle in 1937. Bullet holes from the clash were retained when the museum was created.
On August 15, the museum staged an “interactive play,” with 40 students from the Jiulong Model School re-enacting some of the historical events.
“Over our first year, we found that many students who visited the museum weren’t paying enough attention to the significance of events remembered here,” said Ye Ruiying, who is in charge of the museum. “So we came up the idea of re-enacting part of history.”
The students were moved by the experience.
“I have visited the museum several times,” said student Ge Qihui. “But this is the time I will remember. Figures who used to live in books have come to alive, and I really admire them.”
