Tang Lingfeng
LAST month, Tang Lingfeng finished a three-year stint as an aid official from Jing’an, helping underprivileged people in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region of northwestern China. He has returned home.
“You have to get immersed with local people and respect local culture,” he said of the assignment.
The district is now sending in a new team of aid workers, as part of national efforts for richer areas of the country to assist poorer regions.
While in Xinjiang’s Bachu County, he organized a marathon across the Yarkand River, through the Euphrates poplar forest and into the Taklimakan Desert. The route has long been a popular one for explorers and backpackers.
