Ingersoll Rand to set up an HQ in district

INGERSOLL Rand PLC, a world leader in building safe, comfortable and efficient environments, signed an agreement recently with Jinshan District Government to set up its security technology unit's China headquarters in the Jinshan Industrial Zone.

The US$50-million Ingersoll Rand Security Technology (China) Co will combine product research and development with manufacturing.

As the southwest gate of Shanghai and Yangtze River delta, Jinshan Industrial Zone has a plan area of 58 square kilometers and is one of the nine city-level industrial zones in Shanghai, which has attracted hosts of high and new technology industry companies.

"The cooperation between Ingersoll Rand and Jinshan government not only integrates security technologies, but also plays a vital role in the transformation and upgrading of the city," says Dai Haibo, director of the Shanghai Commission of Economy and Information Technology. "Both sides should give full play to their strength and establish a cooperative mechanism to further promote the development of Jinshan."

With a planned population of 270,000, the industrial zone located at the northern bank of the Hangzhou Bay is traversed by almost 10 highways, echoed with a biomedical park, a textile trading center and two national industrial parks in the north and west of Jinshan.

Jinshan Industrial Zone features industries of electronic information, food processing, new material development, green printing, new energy R&D and energy-saving products. It is also home to industrial associations, scientific research institutions and agencies.

Boasting a coastline of more than 23 kilometers, the zone is also building itself into a logistics hub in the recent years.

Security industry

"The investment shows the company's confidence in China's overall investment environment," says Jeff Song, vice president of Ingersoll Rand and president of Ingersoll Rand China. "Its establishment will elevate the R&D and production of Ingersoll Rand China, and will also promote employment, economic development and construction of the city."

It is estimated that from 2012 to 2013, the scale of security industry in China will reach US$323.5-391.1 billion, with a compound growth rate of more than 20 percent. The China headquarters of Ingersoll Rand in Jinshan is an ambitious move by the company to increase its market share, as well as enhance and improve security products and services.

Ingersoll Rand Security Technologies (China) Co Ltd will focus on building hardware, R&D, design, assembling, processing, manufacture, sales, installment and after-market service of security related products.

John Conover, senior vice president of Ingersoll Rand and President of Security Technologies of Ingersoll Rand, said he is confident about the Asia-Pacific and China markets.

"It's an honor for Ingersoll Rand to settle investments in Jinshan. The fast development of Jinshan Industrial Zone in recent years is a reflection of the growth of Ingersoll Rand in China," he says. "Ingersoll Rand would like to contribute to the sustainable development of China. With this agreement, we will provide more and better quality products and services that are more China-friendly, thus enhancing our leading position in the country."
