THE Popular Science Center in Hongyuan Garden of Minhang District is open to the public. The Popular Science Center covers an area of 40,800 square meters, divided into three parts: the activity zone to experience "sports and electricity," the wind and electricity exhibition area and the green life area. It presents concepts of green, health and energy-saving to visitors.
The "sports and electricity" area has over 10 kinds of body-building equipment, each with a light. Visitors can see the process of energy transformation when using the apparatus.
In the Popular Science Center, the signs of the main roads have been turned into solar energy ones. The solar energy absorbed and stored during the daytime can be used for lighting at night and cloudy days.
The Popular Science Center has a 7-meter-tall small-scale generator, with a model beside it to help visitors learn the theory of wind power generation. The garden supervisor says that Jiangchuan community is the traditional power industry base and is now actively developing new energy to protect the environment. He says that the community wants to show residents developing trends.
