A jade master鈥檚 work dominates exhibition

Some 4,000 pieces of antique Shanghai-style furnishings and decorative items drew throngs of visitors to the recently ended Haipai Vintage Furniture and Artwork Exhibition in Minhang. The most talked-about works on display were jade carvings by master Zhai Yiwei.
Zhai鈥檚 work has been exhibited in the British Museum, and in 2014, one of his jade carvings was sent into space in the China Lunar Exploration Project. The Haipai, or Shanghai-style, jade carving genre, which Zhai champions, blends Western ideas and traditional carving techniques.
Zhai now has a workshop in Minhang.
