A river of dreams from a child’s perspective
MINHANG, the only district in Shanghai that traddles the Huangpu River, has begun a 20-year plan for the economic and ecological development of 39 kilometers of riverbank in its boundaries.
What will the riverbank belt look like in 2040? Who better to answer that question than the generation that will grow up to enjoy the fruits of the vision? Children in the district were invited to put their thoughts about the future riverbank in word and drawing.
What they see is a cleaner, more pleasant environment with sparkling water, fresh air and blue skies.
Li Chuhan, a Grade 1 junior high school student at Wenqi High School, wrote that she imagines all the factories now along the riverbank will become entertainment venues, with the only one left standing a recycling plant.
Shanghai Daily is sharing with readers the visions, wrapped in dreams, of young residents.
