Aging couple finds new life in donating to school

IN Meilong Town, there's a pair of old people who have sold one of their houses to build up a Hope Primary School.

And that's not all. They've decided to donate their other houses to another school after they pass away.

They call themselves "Grandpa Ai" and "Grandma Xin," and they never reveal their real names. "Ai Xin" means "kind heart" in Chinese.

Ai is now 79 and Xin is 77. They used to have a son and a daughter. Unfortunately, both of their children died years ago.

Ai was so stricken by the tragedy he was sent to hospital. He thought about suicide several times but when he saw a charity collection box in the hospital hall, it occurred to him that his son used to mention that he wanted to donate to the Hope Primary School.

Ai decided to fulfill his son's wish. He picked up the phone, dialed the number on the box and got connected with Shanghai Charity Foundation, telling them his idea of donating to a school.

After that, the old couple sold one house and donated 400,000 yuan to reconstruct a Hope primary school in Zhashui County, Shaanxi Province.

The new school was completed on June 6 and is bigger than its predecessor. Because of their physical condition, this old couple could not go to see the building.

But when charity fund staff showed them a photo, they burst into tears. It is now framed and sits on their son's desk.

Ai is now suffering from cancer, and Xin has Parkinson's disease, high blood pressure and diabetes. But they support each other through the difficulties.
