Athletes win medals at Asian Games
Thirteen athletes from Minhang participated in the 2018 Asian Games held in Indonesia. They brought home five gold medals and five bronze.
Xie Wenjun won gold in the men’s 110 hurdles, the second gold he has won. Liu Xiang, an Olympic gold medalist and world champion, lauded Xie’s victory on Weibo. They both trained at the Minhang Sports School.
“What Liu Xiang did in his career has always inspired me,” Xie said. “I have learned much from him.”
Although Xie will turn 30 when he attends the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2020, he doesn’t see age as a big problem.
“Hurdles rely more on skill,” he said. “By 2020, I think I will have perfected my skills.”
Another gold medal winner in Jakarta was Chen Yunxia, who graduated from Qibao High School. She won the championship in the women’s single paddle, adding another medal to China’s rowing team.
Tang Lu, born in 1992, won gold in wushu, a Chinese martial art. On the same day, Qin Haiyang won bronze in the men’s 200-meter breaststroke.
Among other athletes participating in the Asian Games, Xu Chao won gold in the men’s team sprint, Yan Yinhui took a bronze in men’s fencing, and Xu Zhouzhen took bronze in the men’s 4x100-meter relay.
