SIX companies and one individual have won the Special Contribution Award from the Shanghai Zizhu High-Tech Industrial Development Zone in Minhang.
The individual, Chen Dong, was operating an unsuccessful information technology company when the zone granted him financing to switch focus.
The company now produces electromotor it developed for use in fields such as nuclear power, environment protection and water processing.
Chen's company has become a success story in the zone, officials said.
This year marks the 10th anniversary of Zizhu zone, which has attracted more than 450 companies, including about 100 with foreign investment.
Companies in the zone cover a variety of fields, including software, new energy and life sciences.
Among the global names in the zone are Intel, Coca-Cola and Microsoft, which have also won contribution awards.
