Blood donors to get medical care package

BLOOD donors in Minhang are to be rewarded for their contribution to society with a free medical treatment package covering 28 diseases.
Local authorities are now working out details for the new program, expected to be launched by mid-year. Under the proposed guidelines, blood donors will be eligible for the medical coverage within one year after their first donation at any blood bank in Minhang. The package mainly covers trauma and acute diseases.
Meanwhile, a group of motorists in Minhang has set up a volunteer shuttle service to transport donors to and from blood centers. So are, more than 80 volunteers have signed up.
Earlier this month, about 60 people donated blood at the Minhang Sports Park. Among them was Wang Lin from Xinzhuang Town, who was taken to the center by volunteer driver Zhang Miao. "I think this is a very meaningful service," Zhang said.
Last year, 21,100 people in Minhang donated blood.
