Bus service starts up to handle school kids
A new shuttle bus route has opened in Minhang's Wujing Town to transport more than 300 students of a local primary school that was relocated to a new site due to reconstruction.
Xiao Ping, a student living in the Tangwan area, catches the bus at the Sanxingjie stop at 6:30am. The 10-minute ride to the school is free.
Xiao said she no longer worries about being late for school since the bus began operation.
The Tangwan Primary School was moved temporarily from Beiwu Road to Jianchuan Road, a distance of about 6 kilometers.
Xiao was among 337 students affected by the move.
The shuttle service was set up after bus drivers on the Minhang No. 15 line noticed a surge of student passengers and reported that to the Minhang Transportation Service Co.
The No. 15 line, which has 36 stops along a 22-kilometer route, passes both Beiwu and Jianchuan roads.
Company officials looked into the situation and decided to open a new bus route to ensure the safety of students and alleviate the passenger load on the existing line.
Most students of the school live at Sanxingjie, an area encompassing Tangwan, Yuanjiang Road and Xujing Village. The shuttle bus has three stops to service those peak load points. The shuttle bus runs mornings and after school, using five vehicles.
The school will move back to its original site at the end of this year, and the shuttle service will be discontinued.
