Collecting fancy footwear
RETIRED teacher Lang Xiuying loves to collect shoes. She may not rival Imelda Marcos in notoriety, but her collection is three times as large as that of the former Philippine first lady, whose shoes are now on public display in Manila as a testament to extravagance.
For Lang, shoes are a matter of cultural interest, not personal vanity. In 16 years, she collected more than 3,000 pairs of shoes from within China and abroad. All kinds of shoes: fancy, practical, artistic and old-fashioned.
She recently took Shanghai Daily on a tour of her personal shoe museum.
