Conquering the stairs
Li Wenchang, 55, has a new lease on life because of a new service providing an automated lift chair.
Li, who is disabled, lives on the sixth floor of an old apartment building with no elevator on Jinggu Road in Minhang.
The new chair enabled him to go outside his home for the first time in 10 years.
“Without it, I might never have had the opportunity to go out again,” Li said.
Li’s family found about the lift chair from the Disabled Person’s Federation. He can make a reservation to use it for free 26 times a month.
The “stair-climbing” wheelchair service is now under experimental use in neighborhoods.
