Creative construction of office space
CONTAINERS have become a new favorite of interior designers to redecorate museums, hotels and offices. Now Minhang has an office building complex made entirely of containers.
The Qibao Dobe Creative Zone opened last month. It is constructed with combinations of containers, with doors, windows and staircases added for functionality.
The roofs of the buildings can be used as a playground, while an outer wall was designed into a climbing wall. The interior of the buildings sticks to basics, so that companies located there can design their own office space.
“Many of the young entrepreneurial groups who work here want their offices to reflect the team culture of their operations,” said Jia Bo, president of Dobe China. “We provide the opportunity for them to do that.”
Several companies have settled down in the zone, including multinational companies and smaller local firms.
The Koala Studio, a South Korea-based children’s photography company, said it moved to the zone because of the great views and natural outdoor setting, which is ideal for photographers.
Indeed, about 40 percent of the site will feature trees, lawns and shrubbery. Terraces and roof gardens are also expected to be added.
The complex originally belonged to Les Enfants, a baby-products company.
The new zone will cover about 30,000 square meters and employ at least 2,000 people, said Dobe China.
