THE Maqiao hand lion dance and Chenhang proverbs have been officially given national cultural heritage designation. The lion dance has long held a special place in traditional Chinese festivals and remains popular in Minhang. It is a blend of dance and acrobatic skills, accompanied by drums. The proverbs of the Chenhang area have a history dating back over 200 years and are considered part of the origins of Shanghai dialect.
