Cultural ties with Taiwan strengthen
The MJ398 Cultural and Creative Industrial Park recently held a mainland-Taiwan cultural and creativity forum.
“There are on average 10,000 graduates in Taiwan every year whose majors are related to the cultural and creative industry,” said Lian Tairui, manager of the park. “But the market in Taiwan isn’t growing. If anything, it’s shrinking.”
By contrast, the industry on the mainland has been growing, In Minhang alone, it has increased in value from 11 billion yuan (US$7.03 billion) to 26 billion yuan in the last five years, accounting for 11 percent of the district’s gross domestic product.
“The demand for talent will grow, but it takes time to nurture that talent,” said Lian. “So establishing a partnership with Taiwan could benefit both sides. Taiwan students can use the MJ398 park as a work center.”
MJ398, a renovated 27-year-old textile mill complex, is home of about 40 companies involved in cultural and creative businesses.
