Culture and creativity promoted in new plan
Minhang released a three-year plan for the cultural and creative industry earlier this month, seeking to make it a bigger pillar of the economy.
The value of the industry in the past five years has increased, making it a leading industry. The district wants to increase that pace of development by focusing on design, the Internet, media and art.
The goal is to have more than 500 companies working in the industry by the year 2020.
“The cultural and creative industry in Minhang relies on light manufacturing and uses cutting-edge technologies,” said Ren Qiangying, an official with Shanghai culture management authority. “And companies in the same business like to work in clusters.”
Including Qibao Old Street, the district has developed five cultural and creative areas. The release of the plan is a step toward promoting that progress even further.
