LAST year was the final stage of Minhang's three-year plan to dismantle illegal buildings throughout the district. Within three years, Minhang has demolished more than 10.51 million square meters of various illegal constructions, as well as providing migrant workers with more than 210,000 square meters of residential housing. In 2009, the district dismantled illegal constructions across 2.683 million square meters, 148.8 percent of the original target. No accidents or conflicts were reported during the operation. The district has also established a quick-response system to prevent new illegal constructions. In the past year, 1,472 illegal buildings were detected and stopped by administration staff before the projects were completed.
