Disposable income in first-quarter gain

THE average disposable income of Minhang District residents in the first quarter increased by 8 percent from a year earlier to 15,850 yuan (US$2,331), according to the Minhang District Bureau of Statistics.
The figure was slightly higher than the average for all of Shanghai.
The average monthly salary of local residents rose 5.5 percent to 9,523. Salaries comprise about 60 percent of total income.
Pension payments to retirees in the district gained 13 percent from a year earlier.
Household spending on food, transportation and clothes declined in the first quarter while outlays for entertainment and education.
Medical costs contributed the most to a rise in household costs.
