MINANG District recently has been selected as one of the national test sites for ecological development. Among all the 18 sites, Minhang is the only one of district level. In recent years, Minhang has shut down hundreds of environmental-unfriendly factories to protect the environment and improve the industrial structure. Also, Minhang has taken a lot of measures to perfect sewage and domestic garbage disposal systems as well as build up greens and parks. By 2009, the percentage of greenery coverage in the district had extended to over 40 percent.
