The Minhang District Environment Monitoring Team has fined 52 companies this year more than 3 million yuan (US$483,300) for violating laws in areas such as emissions, dust pollution and excessive cooking fumes. A furniture company was shut down after its spray painting seriously affected the health of nearby relatives, officials said.
