MINHANG has set up an electric-vehicle charging station in the Pujiang High-Tech Zone in the Caohejing area. Five chargers are available at the site.
The zone has been promoting electric vehicles as both environmentally friendly and cost saving.
Motorists pay only 1 jiao (1.6 US cents) for each kilometer driven in an electric car - a sixth of the equivalent gasoline cost for conventional engines.
An electric car usually requires eight hours to charge fully and can travel 150 km before recharging is needed.
Pre-paid cards are available for charging stations.
The district is planning to increase the number of charging stations at the Jiao Tong University Minhang campus and in the Zizhu High-Tech Zone. Future plans also call for more roadside stations.
