The Fifth People’s Hospital of Shanghai affiliated to Fudan University performed the district’s first successful surgery of “extracorporeal membrane oxygenation management” on a 39-year-old patient. The procedure is used to provide cardiac and respiratory support to people whose hearts and lungs are unable to produce an adequate volume of gas exchange.
