Expo ideas may spark business innovation
EXPO 2010 has already come to an end, but the new technologies displayed at it have not. People are wondering how many new technologies in the Expo can we put into practical use? Recently, Minhang gave its answer with the completion of its "Shanghai Expo Innovative Technology Compilation." This book has now been sent out to high-tech enterprises in Minhang District for free by the local government, in the hope of helping those businesses take advantage of opportunities in the post-Expo period.
The compilation involves six scientific fields, including new energy, new material, huge facilities, aerospace engineering, IT and biological medicine.
All the writers and editors of the book are experts from universities and scientific research institutes in Minhang and managers of high-tech enterprises.
In their eyes, these six fields are what Minhang is now leading in. If Minhang enterprises can catch post-Expo opportunities it will be a great step for development.
"In former Expos, people usually saw the finished inventions, such as electric light and the telephone," says Zhao Jincai, the director of the expert group of the compilation and a senior engineer at Shanghai Aerospace Association, "but in this Expo, people saw a lot of concepts and imagining of the future, where many opportunities are hiding."
That's how the space power station in the Space Home Pavilion was selected for the compilation.
Generating power in space and transmitting it back to the earth through wireless power transmission technology remains as a blueprint, but experts know the great prospect of wireless power transmission technology.
Minhang has a lot of advantages in the fields of energy and power-generating facilities. Therefore, if Minhang participates in the development of this technology actively, the future market will be inestimable.
In addition, Internet technology in the cars from the SAIC-GM Pavilion, the intelligent toilet from the Pavilion of Future and the industrial 3D-image technology from the Rhone-Alpes Pavilion have also been added to the compilation as good prospects.
Five-thousand copies of the compilation have been printed, but it's still not enough to satisfy the needs of enterprises. According to the local government's plan, more will be printed in the near future.
"The value of the compilation stands in gathering so many experts to discover the wisdom and opportunities of the post-Expo period together," said Sun Jinguo, general manager of Shanghai Zhiding Science Development Company.
"After all, most of us cannot see all the highlights of the Expo. But the compilation is just like borrowing the eyes and brains from the experts, and their information is very important for us to find a proper path for our future development."
