Expo relying on district printing houses to make range of products

DELICATE Expo brochures, Expo pavilion display boards, colorful paper cups and lunch boxes in Expo restaurants, gift packages at Expo souvenir shops - all these printed items could come from printing houses in Minhang District.

Twenty-one printing houses in Minhang have been appointed as a "service supplier" for World Expo 2010 Shanghai, accounting for 30 percent of the total 71 printing houses in Shanghai.

The printing industry is booming in Minhang, with its output value reaching 7.6 billion yuan (US$1.11 billion) last year.

Shanghai Meiya Yanzhong Co Ltd is one of the selected printing houses. Its large-scale album "Harmonious China: Snapshots of 56 Ethnic Groups" drew much attention at the Shanghai Book Fair last month.

The company director and famed photographer Chen Haiwen, together with his team, spent 12 months visiting 554 cities. Altogether they snapped 57,228 photos, all of which will be displayed at next year's Expo.

Realtime Printing House will produce 10,000 packaging and gift boxes for Expo T-shirts. As a new small printing house, its strength in specialty printing has taken its annual revenue to over 10 million yuan.

Its strong design capability and high-quality production line led to a big amount of contracts from well-known brands like Panasonic, Shiseido and Unilever.
