Fair deals for happy shoppers
MAOTAI Road is the famous city street where you can find export rejects of clothes, carpets, textiles and other commodities.
But now a fair for Chinese-produced commodities originally intended for exports has been opened to the public on Wuzhong Road in Minhang, and it is regarded as an upmarket and more refined version of Maotai Road.
The fair in the Lotus Supermarket's Wuzhong Road outlet is managed by the Shanghai Textile Association and the Committee of Fashion Shanghai.
"The global economic crisis has had a major negative impact on the textile industry. Many export orders have been rejected," said Qin Bohui from the association. "This is one way to help businesses 'digest' the overstocked products in the domestic market. We chose Minhang as our first fair because it has a strong purchasing power and great purchasing potential."
