FIRE accidents in the first eight months of the year in the Minhang district was 384, with one death resulting. Losses attributed to fires totaled 10.3 million yuan (US$ 1.5 million). The district has set up a fire safety committee to try to eliminate fire hazards, improve fire-fighting capability and raise public awareness about fire risks.
