First group of residents receive their Expo gift packs

ON June 5, Xu Jinfeng in Expo Home Garden received the first Expo gift pack in Minhang District, which symbolized the formal start of distributing the gifts in the area.

The first group of 200,000 gift sets will be sent to residents who had to relocate their homes for the World Expo, and the rest of the packs will be distributed by the end of June.

Families who have so far failed to register can sign up before July 15.

In Xu's gift pack are a letter of thanks from the Shanghai government, an Expo entrance ticket, a public transport card worth 200 yuan (US$29.41), an emblem of Haibao, a map of the Expo park and an Expo guide especially for Minhang citizens designed by authorities.

In the Fifth Community of the Expo Home Garden, many residents couldn't wait for community staff members to distribute the gift packs.

They immediately formed a long queue, and the first group of 493 gift packs was quickly handed out.

According to the registration information by the end of May, there are more than 620,000 families in 512 villages and communities in Minhang who are qualified to get the Expo gifts.

Community staff and volunteers are finding families who have fallen through the net by posting notices on boards, sending short messages, setting up consultancy booths and reaching out to each family.

Considering the great contribution from relocated citizens in Expo Home Garden and Hongqiao Traffic Hub, the first group of the Expo gift packs were given to communities in Pujiang Town, Huacao Town, Hongqiao Town and Xinhong Community.

Volunteers visited each house from door to door to distribute the packs.

For people who work shift hours, delivery can be arranged at appropriate times.

The free Expo ticket can only be used to visit the fair in July. From August it will expire.

However, the transport card with 200 yuan of stored value has no time limit, and when it runs out, residents can top up the value at Metro stations and convenience stores.
