Food scare
MINHANG is investigating district food production and catering services in the wake of a food poisoning case that sickened 93 employees in November.
The victims became ill after a meal in the canteen of the Hunter Douglas Architectural Products (China) Co in Minhang and were rushed to hospital. Nitrite contamination was blamed for the outbreak.
An emergency meeting was held by the district government following the incident. District Deputy Director Cheng Xiangmin ordered local food, drug and quality supervision authorities to conduct a thorough check on all local canteens and restaurants, to strengthen the monitoring and control of salt, cooking oils and food additives and to improve the tracking system for the entire food chain.
