Free prenatal health exam now available
FIVE hospitals in Minhang have begun a program providing free prenatal examinations for permanent residents and for non-locals who hold residency permits and have lived in the district for at least six months.
The program aims to reduce the incidence of birth defects. The comprehensive examination, which covers 19 medical aspects, would normally cost 750 yuan (US$115).
The five participating hospitals are the Minhang Hospital for Women and Children, the Shanghai No. 8 People's Hospital affiliated with Fudan University, the Minhang Central Hospital, the Wujing Hospital and the Minhang Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Those eligible for the examinations may apply at local neighborhood committees and must show identification cards, household registry cards, health cards and marriage certificates.
Minhang is among the first pilot districts in Shanghai to offer this examination program, which is scheduled to go nationwide.
