Giving tenants a say in apartment management
EARLIER this month, the Xinze Sunshine Apartment complex established the first household management committee in Huacao Town.
The committee allows residents to have a say in how their complex is managed, assisted by professional staff.
Xinze Sunshine Apartment is company rental housing, and the tenants are all migrant workers. Most of them are aged between 18 and 25.
In order to serve residents better, apartment officials have set up a one-stop Public Service Center.
The center will draw on staff from the company labor union, the Work Committee Organization Department, the Women's Federation, the Family Planning Bureau, the Office of Justice and the local community school. The center also provides a library, table tennis room, movie house and network lounge.
Shao Hongxia, general manager of Xinze Real Estate, said that the apartment was established seven years ago.
"It's important to get tenants involved in the management of their units," Shao said. "The creation of the committee is our latest attempt."
The committee consists of 14 people, with Zhong Zhiming as the director.
According to Zhong, the environment and facilities in the Xinze Sunshine Apartment are better than in some other work-related housing projects. The only drawback was the lack of a communication channel between the tenants and the management.
"There were many problems, from management of the bike shed to issues related to drying clothes," Zhong said. "Many tenants had ideas about ho to solve problems but they had no one to report to. The committee aims to provide that channel."
He added, "If this model is successful, we hope to expand it to other residential complexes n the district."
At present, there are 31 employer rental housing complexes in the Minhang District. The largest is the Talent Apartment complex for employers of AVIC Commercial Aircraft Engine Co.
