Got talent? Sign up and join in!
PEOPLE working, living or studying in Hongqiao Town are being invited to participate in a local talent show to be held over several months.
Anyone with a talent to show off is welcome to participate in this first-time event. The application period will last until June 30, and contestants will have the chance to compete for prizes. Professional training for some will also be available ahead of performances.
Each month, a show themed on singing, dancing or opera, among other performing arts, will be presented in the town. Audiences will vote for their favorite acts after each show.
A closing ceremony will be held in October.
The talent show has received a warm public response, said Yan Donglan, a town staffer in charge of applications.
More than 200 people, including group acts, are already preparing to go on stage.
Yu Hua, 12, sang a song and performed jazz for the selection. He has both Chinese and African descent.
Yu lives in Hongqiao Town. He learns musical theater at the Shanghai Traditional Opera School, an affiliate of the Shanghai Theater Academy.
"I learnt the event from the posters at my residential community and I just want to have a try," Yu said.
