Hello Kitty coats keep quake kids warm
HELLO Kitty and Polo brand coats are intended for export to the United States, but 100 of them are keeping warm the child survivors of the earthquake in Sichuan Province.
The donors are the couple Lu Jian and Tong Xiaoxiao who founded a clothing export company three years ago in Minhang District.
After the May 12 earthquake struck Sichuan and other provinces, Tong was deeply moved by the pictures on TV of hungry babies -- especially moved as she was feeding her own baby.
She was distraught and anonymously donated 500 baby bottles, signed only "A CPC member."
When winter came, the couple knew those children would need warm clothes, so they donated 100 coats from their own company. It cost them 30,000 yuan (US$4,382).
"We just did what we had to," says Tong, "and we are happy to help those in need."
