Holiday fun for children spans plays and outings
Children in the Minhang District have a feast of offerings to help them while away the dog days of summer school holidays.
The Shanghai City Theatre on Dushi Road will stage the children's play "GG Bond Adventure" at 10am and 2:30pm on August 3. Blending dance, magic, music and drama, the show creates a dreamlike fairytale world for children.
On August 9 and 10, the Flying Boat Theatre from Japan will present the musical "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz," adapted from the children's classic novel written by L. Frank Baum.
Ticket prices for "GG Bond Adventure" range from 50 yuan (US$7) to 120 yuan, and prices for "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" from 80 yuan to 280 yuan.
The Minhang Library on Mingdu Road has collaborated with the Children's Art Theatre of China Welfare Institute to present a free cultural feast for children. The programs are part of the Shanghai International Children Theatre Festival 2011 and run from August 5 to August 28.
The series includes the play "The Emperor's Ear," to be performed on August 10 at the library and "Lulu and Keke" and "Muckheap" on August 17 and 24, respectively.

The Minhang Youth Center has prepared a variety of fun activities for children, including sessions on how to make sachets and Chinese zodiac gifts. The programs also include participation in environmental protection and science programs.
The center is also organizing a visit to the Minhang Archive Museum, which will include a short history lesson, a painting exhibition and films.
