Hongqiao to enjoy first big-scale shopping mall

Shimao Hongqiao Shopping Center at the junction of Hongsong and Jinhui roads will open this September.
The 120,000-square-meter new project, the first large-scale shopping mall in the Hongqiao area, will have fashion boutiques, supermarkets, a star-rated cinema, a bar street and various restaurants.
"Hongqiao area has many supermarkets and small shops, but has no shopping mall of such a large scale," said general manger Zhu Chaohui. "What we want is to provide locals a one-stop shopping and entertaining experience."
The mall's first floor is for the Lianhua Life Hub, a supermarket featuring imported goods. The cinema on the fifth floor boasts seven projection rooms with more than 1,200 seats.
One of the highlights of the shopping center is the bar street that surrounds the main building. The road features seven villas with European architectural styles. Each has a business area of more than 700 square meters, housing dozens of bars and clubs.
Shimao Group is one of the biggest furniture sellers in the city and the shopping mall is the first real estate project they invested in.
"If this project goes well, Shimao Group is set to invest in a second and third shopping center in Shanghai," the general manager said recently.
